The Rawdon In Bloom group has continued with the programme of planting and improvements over recent months. The group entered the Yorkshire In Bloom competition for the first time this year, in the initial category ‘RHS It’s Your Neighbourhood’. Judging took place in April and at the awards ceremony in September, Rawdon attained ‘Level 3 -Advancing’. The feedback was very positive, with encouragement to try a higher category next year.
The first stage of permanent planting has begun with the ‘Rawdon In Bloom’ stone opposite the Emmott Arms, which will form the focus of a rockery planted with shrubs and seasonal plants.
As a social event and a partial fundraiser, the group held a ceilidh at Yarnbury Rugby Club at the end of September which was well attended by all age groups.
Further bulb planting is planned for October and the group has also undertaken some planting and general maintenance at the cenotaph on Leeds Road as well as the WW1 centenary memorial garden.
The group would welcome ideas and suggestions for other bulb planting or permanent sites in Rawdon, so please email Denise Watson denise.watson93@ntlworld.com or Jackie Shemilt js@shemiltaccounting.co.uk or visit our Rawdon In Bloom Facebook page if you would like to pass on suggestions or become involved with the group itself in any capacity.
